Tavkveri "the mad king of Kartli", a red grape endemic to Gotsa's region, Tavkveri grows well in clay and sandy soils. It is typically interplanted with other varieties as it is non-hemaphrididic and cannot self pollinate. Tavkveri is appropriate for many styles of production; sparkling, still and sometimes sweet. Beka makes a sparkling version in addition to this classical still dry example medium bodied, dry and low in tannins with aromas of fruit punch, cedar, licorice and wash rind cheese.
